Computer-Aided Detection (CAD)

Also known as: CAD

Software that flags regions of a medical image that may warrant closer review by a clinician.

Computer-aided detection (CAD) is software, often AI-based, that analyzes a medical image and flags regions or findings that may warrant closer review by a radiologist or other clinician.

Older CAD systems used traditional image-processing rules; most current systems use deep learning, which is why "CAD" and "AI diagnostics" are increasingly used interchangeably even though the term predates modern AI.
