Clinical Validation

The process of testing an AI tool's performance against real clinical data and outcomes before and after deployment.

Clinical validation is the process of testing an AI tool's performance against real clinical data and outcomes to confirm it performs as intended for its target patient population, distinct from the technical testing used during development.

Validation performed by a vendor on its own development data is not the same as independent, site-specific validation. Many health systems run a local validation check before or during rollout because performance can vary by patient population and equipment.
